About us
We draw teapots and cups. A stoneware workshop makes them.
Cindrava makes four pieces for making tea at home: a Round Teapot, a Pour Jug, a Brewing Mug and a pair of Tea Cups. Each comes in three glazes, Celadon, Ash and Iron, so twelve pieces in all, and every one has the same bare clay foot.
Why these four
Tea for more than one person needs a pot and some cups; tea for one is easier in a mug that brews it. The jug sits between the two: it takes milk, water, or a pot of tea poured off the leaves so it stops getting stronger. We stopped at four because that covers most of how tea gets made at a kitchen table.
Both brewing pieces keep leaves out of the cup without a steel or plastic insert. The teapot has its strainer built into the wall behind the spout; the mug has a stoneware basket that lifts out. Every part is stoneware; only the foot is left unglazed.
Who makes them
We do not own a kiln. We draw the shapes, choose the clay and the three glazes, and a stoneware workshop makes the pieces to our drawings. We say so because it matters when you are deciding who to buy from: the designs, the choices and the responsibility for what arrives at your door are ours.
Each piece is fired twice, once bare and once glazed, and dipped by hand in between. The Care & Materials page explains what that means for looking after it.
What we will not claim
- That two pieces will match exactly. The glaze line at the foot is dipped by hand, speckles fall where they fall, and colour shifts a little between batches.
- That the teapot strainer stops everything. Very fine tea, like rooibos or broken leaf, gets through.
- That stoneware is unbreakable. It survives the dishwasher and the microwave, not a tiled floor.
